𝐌𝐘 𝐀𝐑𝐓𝗪𝐎𝐑𝐊 𝐈𝐒 𝐈𝐍 𝐁𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐒𝐇 𝐕𝐎𝐆𝐔𝐄 𝐌𝐀𝐆𝐀𝐙𝐈𝐍𝐄! 😮😍🎉 Okay, let me back up a little bit here and I'll tell you the whole story. I've been holding onto this news for MONTHS now. I woke up one morning to an email from British VOGUE and tabled it for after my kids were dropped off at school. I remember thinking, "I'll check on this later. I'm sure it's a scam." But it didn't 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 like a scam. AND -- 𝐋𝐀𝐃𝐈𝐄𝐒 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐋𝐄𝐇𝐔𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐒, 𝘢 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘮 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘕𝘖𝘛. So after absolutely spending way too long to convince myself it wasn't real, I finally accepted it was and did plenty a happy dance in my studio. And it 𝘐𝘚 real. 𝐈𝐭'𝐬 𝐬𝐨 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥. My artwork is in the April, May, and June issues of British VOGUE magazine, in their "Vogue's Gallery" section. I'm so grateful for the chance to share my work with British Vogue's readership, and my heart might explode to be in the presence of such amazing artists, makers, and humans out in the world. I owe a very robust thank you to the Vogue Gallery team for reaching out and inviting me to participate--I'm so grateful for the opportunity. 𝐒𝐎, 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲.
I am so deeply honored to be in the entire May 2023 issue, especially, because it is dedicated to making Disability 𝘝𝘐𝘚𝘐𝘉𝘓𝘌 and to honor, in British VOGUE’s words, “…𝘢 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘵. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘺 𝟸𝟶𝟸𝟹 𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝟷𝟿 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘵, 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘴 𝘧𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘮”.
Why am I so thankful that THIS issue has my artwork!? Well, many of you know I am not just an artist. I’m also a certified and licensed Speech-Language Therapist (SLP). Speech Therapists provide skilled therapy and rehabilitation across the entire spectrum of life, supporting newborns, individuals requiring end-of-life care, and every age group in between. Disability advocacy, outreach, and support is a huge component of being an SLP, as our entire field fosters connection and communication of those in the Disability community. We work with those who require support, modifications, and accommodations to communicate their needs, wants, and ideas so that their unique and BRILLIANT voices can be heard and/or validated. We work with children whose language is just developing, with swallowing impairments, in stroke and traumatic brain injury rehabilitation, with people who have degenerative and neurological disorders, and in so many other areas. SO many. Truly, if you know even a few people, you very likely know someone who has seen or worked with a Speech-Language Therapist. So 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸—𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞!? 𝐈𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠. And beautiful. I can’t even find the words to adequately express my gratitude.
