This painting, "You'd Be The Prettiest One There If Not For Your Weight" has been featured in at least one publication and two juried exhibitions. It was created to highlight the disparity between perceptions others impose upon us and the reality of our existence. The title of the print was a direct quote a trusted individual once told someone I love very much. While it was likely intended to be complimentary, the words were terribly hurtful. They stung, and they still hang in the air years later. The piece itself is meant to be as beautiful as we actually are, even in our flawed humanity. The title meant to be jarring--in stark contrast to the painting itself which features flowing ink and stillness.

No matter how beautiful you are, and no matter how you measure beauty, people with judgment will use it. It's only a reflection of their own inner world. The way I see it, we live such a short life on this planet. It seems impossible that life could be about appeasing the views of others on our bodies--our size, our shape, our weight, and their interpretation of what is beautiful. It's far more reasonable to me that life is about living a beautiful life with the time we have: one full of kindness, love, goodwill, and charity.

Our worth is more than our size, our position in life, or our identity. It's certainly bigger than how others perceive those things. This art is meant to show the triumph of what it means to embrace ourselves fully and to know we're perfect exactly as we are.
